How our 24/7 ambulance referral works

From first assessment in the valley to the right hospital in Mardan or Peshawar: how the Foundation’s emergency referral lifeline works.

16 October 2026 · 3 min read

We are a first point of care, not a replacement for major hospitals. For many families around Katlang, the nearest hospital is 19 to 25 km away in Mardan, and Peshawar is further still. Our job is to make sure a woman or child is seen quickly, close to home, and reaches the right hospital if she needs more.

Four steps

  1. Identify early. Screening and assessment on site, day and night.
  2. Stabilise. Our team gives immediate clinical support.
  3. Refer safely. If she needs a bigger hospital, our ambulance takes her there, 24 hours a day.
  4. Follow up locally. Recovery support back at home, close to her family.

Where we refer

Depending on clinical need, we refer to hospitals including Mardan Medical Complex and DHQ Hospital Mardan, and in Peshawar to Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex. You can explore the routes on our 3D referral map.
